Jack McKay scored a hat trick to send Doncaster Rovers through to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup at the expense of 2013 winners Norwich City.

McKay converted a first half penalty and struck twice in extra time after Michee Efete had headed home a last gasp equaliser for City.

Doncaster’s victory was full reward for a spirited showing against their U18 Barclays Premier League counterparts.

Norwich started confidently but from the outset Rovers were not overawed on their big night.

Norwich’s main threat came from marauding right back Efete but the Canaries failed to make their early possession count as neither side worked the opposition goalkeeper.

Rovers grabbed the lead from the spot on 38 minutes after Matthew Davies was tripped in the box. McKay held his nerve and sent Aston Oxborough the wrong way.

City predictably upped it after the break and the cool and composed Paul McKay had to make a vital goal line clearance, Todd Cantwell missed a glorious chance and Ben Burgess headed against the bar.

Just when it seemed Rovers had done enough Efete popped up at the back post to head home an 89th minute equaliser.

But Doncaster found another gear in extra time, McKay taking advantage of some sloppy defending to coolly slot home before sealing his hat trick with a close range finish.

Rovers will travel to Swansea City in the fourth round.
