James Coppinger admits he has never experienced a run as frustrating as Rovers’ current home woes during his decade at the club.
But he has called upon supporters to get behind the team in their quest for goals and wins at the Keepmoat.
Rovers’ 2-1 defeat to struggling Gillingham saw their record fall to just one win in 14 home matches, with ten defeats in that run.
The painful lack of goals at home this term – just six have been scored in ten games – has Coppinger baffled, particularly given the amount of chances that were created against the Gills.
“I don’t think I’ve ever come across something like this since I’ve been here,” Coppinger said.
“There were plenty of chances on Saturday but it just didn’t go our way.
“Reece Wabara hit the bar, I had a great chance and there were at least a couple more.
“It’s just one of those things.
“We’re creating chances and getting into good areas but at home it seems like we can’t put them away.
“It’s very frustrating.
“We’re very aware of the record and we’re desperately trying to put things right.”
Rovers were booed off at the end of the game on Saturday and Coppinger admits the atmosphere at the Keepmoat does have an affect on the players.
And the veteran midfielder wants fans to stick by their team as they look to end the poor run.
He said: “I think sometimes the atmosphere does influence things.
“For us, it’s about staying positive and trying to end this run. I’m sure in the next few games we will.
“We need everyone behind us because we’re definitely trying every day to put it right.
“It’s not nice for the fans to pay to come here and have to go away with a defeat.
“It’s difficult with the fans getting frustrated because we need them to get behind us.
“Hopefully in the next home game we can give them something to shout about.”
