Doncaster Alliance League: Canal Tavern go three points clear at top of Premier Division

Canal Tavern opened up a three-point lead at the top of the Doncaster Sunday Alliance League Premier Division.

They inflicted a 2-1 defeat on defending champions Sprotbrough in a keenly-contested encounter.

FC Glasshouse climbed above former champions Athletico Tap Maker into third spot after dishing out a 5-0 beating to their Balby-based hosts.

Eden Grove inflicted an eighth defeat on Graceholme, for whom Craig Dyson and Daniel White netted, following their 5-2 victory.

Toll Bar failed to ease their relegation worries when going down 4-1 at home to Wheatsheaf, whose goals were shared by Ricky Temporal (2), Callum Wiffen and Shaun Thompson.

Third-placed Armthorpe Albion lost their unbeaten Championship record when going down 1-0 at home to The Vault.

The top two sides, Carpenters Arms and leaders Lonsdale, separated only on goal difference, battled out a 3-3 draw.

Dark horses Bullcroft Sports & Pastimes, now up to fourth, made ground on all the sides above them following their 4-2 win over bottom club Newton Arms.

Joe Fisher bagged a brace for the winners, who also benefited from two own goals, with Luke Wellings and Tony McCabe replying.

Rossington United kept in touch with the top courtesy of a 3-0 win at Walton Wonderers.

Adrian Parker led the way with a hat trick as Red Lion (Askern) registered a 7-2 win over Willaspoons.

Mitchell Wain (2), Karl Bray and Thomas Noon also chipped in. Dean Cuttle and Mark Pearson shared the Willaspoons’ consolation goals.

Windmill stopped fellow strugglers Tank (Jimmy Falkiner) dead in their tracks, beating them 7-1.

The Askern climbed into second spot in Division One on goal difference following their 8-3 win at Adam & Steve.

Jordan Gill helped himself to three of the goals with Gareth Davis and Leon Tarry both hitting a double. Callum Smith rounded the scoring off.

Bessacarr (Stan Krco) dropped a place to third after suffering a 3-1 defeat at home to Eve’s Trust Dynamo’s.

FC Dunscroft also share second spot following their 9-1 win at bottom club Armthorpe Village, whose consolation was scored by Carl Briggs.

C&R Sports Bar also remain well-placed thanks to their 6-4 win at FC Gatehouse.

Arksey Victoria are up to sixth following their 4-1 win at lowly Hatfield Town.

Scott Wilson was Carcroft Village’s hat trick hero as they beat Leopard by the odd goal in seven.

DN5 Old Boys took over top spot in Division Two on goal difference after beating bottom club The Urban 7-3.

David Flowitt (3), Richard McBurney, Craig Wilmot, Brad Atherton and Aaron Rhodes found the net.

Jakes Bar Rangers also climbed above leaders Winning Post, who were without a game, after claiming a 5-4 win over Balby CSV thanks to goals by Danny Maddison, Tim Morgan, Lee Pearce, Jason Loosemore and Nathan Booth.

Highwayman beat fellow strugglers Pit Club to bag their third win of the season.

Scawthorpe beat Rhino’s United by the odd goal in seven.

FC Cumberland, for whom Patrick McCoy, Jordan Smith and Jack Taylor netted, lost 7-4 at Schoolboy Norton.

Fairway Athletic continue to set a hot pace at the top of Division Two after beating FC Parklands 2-0 to claim their tenth win in 11 games.

White Hart (Askern), who have a game in hand, still head the chasing pack as a result of their 5-1 win at Team 23. James Clarke notched a hat trick for the winners with Tom Costello and Nathan Anderson also getting in on the act. Chris Marriott claim the home team’s consolation.

Balby Academy of Sport Inter enjoyed a 7-1 win over Jakes Bar United with goals from Sam York (4), Reece Taylor, Danny Parkes and Dom Hunstan.

Eden Arms also had their shooting boots on, beating Balby Rovers 8-3. Ashley Barton (4), Callum Reid (3) and Joe Wade did the damage.

The Railway and Palfreys battled out a 1-1 draw.

Bentley Sports & Social edged a 2-1 win at Windmill Wanderers (Gary Hawker).
