Doncaster Knights: Players must be accountable for Moseley defeat - Griffiths

Clive Griffiths has told his players that everyone must accept responsibility for Saturday’s 28-13 Championship defeat by Moseley.

“I’ll take the blame because I picked the starting 15 and the seven replacements but the players have got to take ownership of the shirts,” said Griffiths, who also apologised to the club’s supporters for the below-par display.

“As I say, I’ll carry the can but I didn’t knock-on or throw out interception passes and things like that.”

Although the general feeling among another four-figure crowd was that the damp conditions favoured Moseley’s game-plan, the Welshman refused to use that as an excuse.

“I’m not blaming the weather,” he said.

“You get four seasons every campaign and players should be used to it. I also like to think that we’ve got a game-plan that we can adapt.

“We’d spoken about Moseley and we knew what was going to happen but on the day we didn’t have any answers.

“We started like a house on fire and looked like the side that we can be. But after scoring an early try we missed a number of other chances after which they started to kick us to death.

“They kept kicking the ball deep into our half and we didn’t return it well or counter-attack well.

“I’ve no grumbles about the result. We got what we deserved which was nothing.

“I’ve got to come up with some answers quickly but the players have also got to take some accountability for their performance.”

Knights dropped to eighth in the table following their third successive league defeat.
