Wheatley Hills went third in North One East after beating strugglers Alnwick 32-0 at York Road.
A lone penalty gave Hills a fragile 3-0 half time lead.
The wet and foggy conditions led to a lot of spilled ball in the first half and only a 40th minute penalty from Owen Gilvray edged Wheatley ahead.
But after the break they took control, pinned Alnwick back and finally put some tries on the scoreboard.
Gilvray kicked a second penalty on 42 minutes, and added a difficult conversion following prop Anthony O’Donnell’s 50th minute try out wide.
Another try wide out – this time by winger Jordan Ajimati on 64 minutes – was also converted by Gilvray as Wheatley took a 20-0 lead.
The third try came on 76 minutes when Gilvray kicked ahead, ran on and touched down and although he missed the conversion, he was on target following a fourth try from flanker Tom Buckenham which gave Wheatley a maximum five-point haul.
Thornensians slipped from second to third in Yorkshire Three after they were held to a 17-17 draw at home to Baildon.
The home side took an early lead with a try by scrum-half Lee Linsdell, but Baildon replied five minutes later with a try which was converted to give them a 7-5 interval lead.
Baildon opened the second half scoring with a penalty goal. A try by Ryan Pilley, converted by Oli Cox, put Thorne back in front at 12-10, but a converted try gave the visitors a 17-12 lead.
Danny Gilbert raced in for Thorne’s third try on the final whistle, but Cox was wide with his conversion attempt.
Rossington Hornets lost 22-10 in their Yorkshire Five clash at Rotherham Clifton.
