Scunthorpe United chief Mark Robins has urged his side to keep the momentum going following their 2-1 win over promotion hopefuls Peterborough United.

The Iron climbed off the bottom of League One thanks after Ricardo Santos deflected an Isaiah Osbourne change into his own goal.

That gave Robins his first win since taking over the Glanford Park club.

United now take a break from league action to concentrate on their FA Cup fortunes this Sunday away to Forest Green.

And Robins wants to keep their heads held high ready for the trip to their Conference counterparts.

“Wins are all-important; it gives you breathing space,” said the Iron chief.

“We’ve got a little break now with the FA Cup which we want to do well in.

“Again, we’ll have to compete as we did [against Peterborough] against a Forest Green side looking to take a league scalp.”

Scunthorpe took the lead against Posh on Saturday when Luke Williams beat goalkeeper Ben Alnwick.

However, Conor Washington equalised for Peterborough in the 57th minute following a poor clearance from shot-stopper Sam Slocombe.

Scunthorpe’s second came via a hint of good fortune as Osbourne’s drive was diverted home by Peteborough man Santos for 2-1.

“They were slightly under par, but I thought we were excellent. I thought at times we passed it okay and I thought at times we defended really well when we needed to,” said Robins on the vital victory.

“You try and play the game, and what the game gives you, and the game gave us little opportunity to break out and also plenty of time to defend.

“There’s no hiding away from the fact that they go all out to score goals.

“I’ve got no complaints about the group because whatever I get from them is their maximum.”
