Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone says he did not think twice about re-joining Doncaster Rovers.

The 21-year-old will start at Bradford City tomorrow after returning to the Keepmoat Stadium for a second loan spell.

“I need to get out and play football and I enjoyed it here last year,” said Johnstone.

“I got a call off the manager asking me to consider coming back and to be honest I didn’t think twice.

“Knowing you’re going to play Saturday, sometimes Saturday and Tuesday, it’s good for you, especially at 21-years-old.

“You’ve got to get out there and play.

“You’ve got crowds, you’re playing for points, it’s proper football.”

Johnstone has been taken aback by the well wishes he has received from the fans since re-signing on Monday.

“I saw a lot of tweets and messages on instagram and the website and I really appreciate it,” he said.

“I’m glad they’re happy I’m back and I’m happy to be back.

“Hopefully they can keep supporting the team as well and we’ll start getting some good results.”

Johnstone made 18 appearances on loan for Rovers last season but is way down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Jed Steer has returned to parent club Aston Villa, Paul Dickov confirmed yesterday.
