His kickboxing fight might not have ended how he would have liked, but Adam Bramhald was delighted to return to the ring.

The Belton Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter spent months preparing for his bout against Karl Joyce at a showpiece event in Huddersfield earlier this month.

However, the 20-year-old was dealt a blow when his battle was brought to an abrupt end following an accidental foul.

The show-stopper was deemed a no contest in the first round following an explosive start by Bramhald.

“I was very comfortable and landing a lot of shots without taking any damage and definitely winning the fight upto then,” said Bramhald.

“Unfortunately after an accidental foul by myself, Joyce didn’t want to continue. So, it was stopped and called a no contest.”

He went on: “Despite the result, it felt amazing stepping into the ring. I had some great support with me and I felt extremely confident and composed. I had no nerves at all, just excitement.

“I was winning the round by a long way and was really enjoying the fight, getting into my rhythm and setting my own pace. It felt great to finally be fighting K1 (kickboxing) rules.

“I was very disappointed when he said he didn’t want to continue. I don’t personally think that he couldn’t continue, I think he made the choice because of the way the fight was going.”

Bramhald, who has dreams of securing a contract with UFC - the largest mixed martial arts promotion company in the world featuring top-ranked fighters - will now have to wait until December 6 for his next battle.

And that will be a huge contest as Bramhald aims to defend his Combat Sport FC title in Doncaster against bantamweight ace Wajid Farid.

“I really can’t wait to get back in the gym and start preparing for it. I’m hungry to get back in there and finish the year off with a win,” added title-holder Bramhald.
