Andy Butler aims to deliver exactly what Doncaster Rovers want.

The 30-year-old centre back - who hails from Balby - yesterday joined his hometown team on loan from Sheffield United until January 3.

And he’s ready to answer boss Paul Dickov’s SOS for another leader on and off the pitch.

“Hopefully I’m a good leader on the pitch and I’m a good organiser,” said Butler, 30. “It’s what I pride my game on.

“I was captain at Walsall for three and a half years, nearly four years, so hopefully I’ve learned something there.

“I’ve learned things off different captains too. Andy Crosby at Scunthorpe was a brilliant captain. Hopefully I can put those skills to use here at Rovers.”

Butler will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s visit of MK Dons, as Doncaster continue to search for some sort of consistency in their performances.

“If you’re consistent in this league, you get out of it,” said Butler.

“That’s what the aim is to do.

“Everyone is beating everyone this year. If you can string a few results together you can push yourself right up the table.”

Butler, meanwhile, was keen to quash talk of a fall-out with Blades boss Nigel Clough.

“The move [to Sheffield United] has not worked out, but that’s football. Sometimes you have to go elsewhere to play football.

“People will say I have had arguments with the gaffer. But I haven’t. It is purely his opinion that the players who are in front of me are playing better than I am. It is his opinion. That is what football is all about.”
