DONCASTER Knights’ preparation for tomorrow’s British & Irish Cup game against Llandovery has been hampered by illness in the camp.

“There are a lot of bugs going around and you don’t know who is going to drop next,” said team boss Clive Griffiths.

“Connor Braid didn’t train on Tuesday, though I’m hoping that he’ll be alright, and Chris Planchant didn’t train on Wednesday, and one or two others have reported symptoms.

“Despite that we’ve had a good weeks’ training and we are gradually bringing in new things.

“I’ve asked the boys for their feedback and what they feel they need to work on so that we are all singing from the same page.”

The squad will travel down to Wales this afternoon after a run-out at Castle Park.

“It will be a great opportunity for any players coming into the squad for the first time since I’ve been here to put their hand up and say: ‘have a look at me; I can do this.’

“The B & I Cup is not our main focus; that is climbing away from the foot of the table. But it is still an important competition for us for a number of reasons. We want to build on the league win over Jersey last weekend and we want to get some momentum and boost the confidence of the players.”

“We scored three tries against Jersey and could have scored six, but at least we created the chances - that’s the main thing.

“I want the players to keep up their confidence levels to try things. When we start finishing off our chances somebody is going to suffer a big defeat.”
