Doncaster Rovers: A Steer in the right direction

Paul Dickov is confident keeper Jed Steer will be fit enough to start today’s derby clash with Scunthorpe.

The on-loan Aston Villa keeper was forced off during last Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Walsall after taking a knock to his hip after claiming an aerial ball.

But the 22-year-old is expected to start for Rovers at Glanford Park today.

“It was a nasty whack that he took on his hip,” boss Paul Dickov said.

“He had a few days to settle it down, look after himself, and he trained fully with the squad on Thursday.

“He’ll be fine.”

Nathan Tyson is also set for a return to the side this afternoon after sitting out the Walsall trip due to the concussion he suffered against Fulham in the League Cup.

Dickov has been pleased with the response his players have produced in training after a defeat he labelled embarrassed.

And he insists a week of double sessions was not merely punishment for the poor performance.

He said: “Anybody that was there at Walsall will have known there is still plenty of things for us to work on.

“We didn’t have the lads in for double sessions on a whim.

“Defensively, going forward, team shape and individual positioning too.

“We’ve tailored the week around that, the lads have been really receptive and the response has been great.

“Now the challenge is for them to go out and do it on Saturday.”
