Haxey CC’s third team have booked their place in a cup final thanks to an untouchable century from Oliver Tonks in the side’s double-header win over Grimsby Town.

The Isle men faced Town in their Amazing Smile North Lindsey Division One KO Cup clash which also doubled-up as valuable league points.

And an emphatic nine-wicket win from the visitors saw Haxey book their cup final spot against Scunthorpe Town on August 31 (at Hibaldstow, 2pm).

And those vital league points mean third-placed Haxey are closing in on leaders Alkborough who sit three points ahead on 13.

Haxey restricted Grimsby to 140 all out as Aaron Moody collected 4-24 and Tonks hit an unstoppable 105no to see the away side cruise to 142-1.

* The Amazing Smile North Lindsey League’s Division Two saw Outcasts’ third team take on the might of Caistor Cougars in a top half of the table clash.

And the Cougars missed the opportunity to put pressure on league leaders Cleethorpes as the Crowle side pounced at Hirst Priory their rehearsal for the Amazing Smile KO Cup Division Three final.

Despite the best efforts of an in-form Lane Tutty, who hit 93 of the Cougars’ 197 all out total, (Crowle’s Matthew Teal took 4 for 78), Outcasts team-mates Josh Bramhill (61), Richard Wroot (43) and Deol Singh (35no) saw their team romp to a four-wicket win.

That result has helped enhance the Isle side’s promotion hopes who sit just four points behind leaders Cleethorpes.
