A Wroot show jumper has been crowned reserve champion at a national competition.
Sarah-Jo Wicks, who has shown incredible courage to bounce back from a series of injuries which this year - which includes cracked ribs following a fall from her horse - finished second in the Riding for the Disabled Show Jumping National Championships at Hartpury.
There was even more cause for celebration as it was the first national championship for the 36-year-old grade three rider and her six-year-old mare Kalika.
The pair impressed on centre stage in Gloucestershire and was incredibly close to clinching top spot.
“I’ve only had Kalika for a few weeks and she’s a baby at six-years-old so I was really chuffed with how well she coped on such a big stage,” said Wicks, of High Street.
“You never really know how a horse is going to react in these types of events until you get your performance underway, but Kalika was brilliant.
“It’s been difficult because we’ve not been able to get the training in, so I’m over the moon with the result.”
Wicks, who lost a finger when her horse bolted and still experiences pain down her left side, has only been competing for the past three years and performs on both the para and able-bodied stages.
The Great British show jumping star is now targeting top honours at the Para Show Jumping Northern Championships which take place at Bishop Burton next month.
