Ryan On The Record: Automatic places up for grabs

IT is great to see us doing so well and proving the pundits wrong!

The League One promotion race is wide open and if we keep up the form of the last week we could be heading straight back to the Championship.

Dean Saunders has overseen a remarkable turnaround on his reduced budget.

Relegation cost us £6 million in terms of TV money, gate money and revenue.

Our gates are down this season - but will they be down for much longer?

Dean and the boys are doing the business and we now need to see all the doubting Thomas’s reappear.

We’ve catapulted ourselves into the play-off zone and I feel that the automatic places are not out of our reach.

We must remember the season is only just over two months old.

But with the recent additions of Andy Griffin and Sammy Clingan, and our strikers in form, we are certainly heading in the right direction.

The FA Cup tie with Bradford PA is on special offer (£10 adults, £1 children) - please come along and give us a cheer.

Then it’s Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday and a rejuvenated Bournemouth with their old manager Eddie Howe back at the helm on Saturday week.

Bournemouth, with their new Russian owner, have been spending like drunken sailors and also paying a seven figure compensation sum to Burnley for Howe’s services.

Is this really the club that has lurched through financial problems over the past seven years that is now splashing out like there is no tomorrow?

I must say I find it quite strange to see them spending in such an irrational way.

What happens if their sugar daddy pulls out? You only have to look at what has happened a few miles along the coast at Portsmouth.

More from John Ryan online tomorrow.
