Dickov blasts absent Quinn

Paul Dickov has branded Paul Quinn ‘unprofessional’ for failing to report for pre-season training for the second consecutive summer.

The defender was a notable absence from Rovers’ squad in last night’s first friendly, a 2-0 win at Bradford Park Avenue.

And Dickov revealed Quinn has yet to report back, despite remaining under contract at the club.

“Paul is contracted to the club,” Dickov told the Star.

“For the second year running he’s not turned up for training which is disappointing and unprofessional from his point of view.

“He does have a release clause in his contract which he activated but as we stand now he is still our player because he’s not signed for any other club so he should be in for training.

“It’s disappointing, not just for myself but for the club.

“Paul has had a lot of help both personally and professional from the club.

“For it to happen for the second year running is unprofessional to say the least.”

When asked about how the club progress with Quinn’s situation, Dickov said: “We look forward and have a successful season in League One with players that are committed to the club and want to be here.”

Rovers triumphed at the Horsfall Stadium courtesy of a fine Theo Robinson strike and a Grant Black own goal, both coming in a much-improved second half.

Dickov was largely unfazed by the slow start his side made against the Conference North outfit.

He said: “It’s pre-season. The pitch wasn’t the best.

“First half we started slowly but it was all about getting fitness in the boys.”
