Jason Cunningham will challenge world title contender Martin Ward for the Commonwealth bantamweight title on what promoters hope could prove to be one of the biggest nights in Doncaster boxing’s recent history.
Doncaster’s English champion Cunningham will make a major step up against Ward on September 6 at the Dome.
Victory for the Woodlands fighter would see him impact on the world stage with Ward ranked by the IBF.
The County Durham fighter faced Stuart Hall for the IBF title in March with the bout ending in a technical draw due to a severe cut for Ward.
The show will be a co-promotion between Stefy Bull and Dennis Hobson and could feature the mooted all-Doncaster heavyweight clash between Dave Allen and Carl Spencer.
The pair are also working on other fights for the night including an intriguing clash between workhorses Andy Townend and Lee Connelly.
