For the second summer running, Paul Quinn’s future at Doncaster Rovers is under question.
Quinn took to Twitter yesterday to announce he would not be returning to the club for next season.
But the Star understands his future has yet to be rubberstamped either way.
Quinn tweeted: “I am sad I wont b returning to #drfc and would like to thank the fans for all the support over past 2 seasons, you deserve better also you lot backed us from minute I signed until that horrible day last season and its credit to you all.”
The popular defender is expected to seek official confirmation of his future early this week.
The Star also understands Quinn is not currently poised to join another club.
Just like a year ago, Quinn did not join his team mates in the first week of pre-season training.
Last year he was not present at Cantley Park for the early days of summer preparations, with his absence seen as by boss Paul Dickov as a snub towards the offer of a new contract.
The issue was soon resolved and Quinn was back for the second week of training, signing a two year deal later in the summer.
Again this year there are several issues to be addressed if the 28-year-old is to be back among the Rovers squad.
Quinn vented frustration on Twitter at several points last week, apparently towards the club.
Unlike the summer of 2013, Quinn has a year remaining on his contract at Rovers.
He is known to be one of the contracted players to hold a clause which would have allowed him to leave the club for free following relegation, as Chris Brown and Mark Duffy have done already.
There has been no word from the club or Quinn himself as to whether any such clause has been taken up.
His absence from Cantley Park this week was notable however, along with James Coppinger and Ross Turnbull.
Coppinger and Turnbull are both out of contract but Rovers are said to be pursuing new deals with the pair. The Star understands insurance issues prevented them from training with Rovers last week.
Fellow out-of-contract players Paul Keegan, Jon Maxted and Liam Wakefield were all present for training this week.
