BRIAN Laws will be unveiled to the media today after taking charge of Scunthorpe United for a third time.

Laws replaces Alan Knill who was sacked on Monday after winning just 16 games during his 19 months in charge.

On a dramatic day at the Iron, chairman Steve Wharton also revealed he will step down at the end of the season.

Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Milton Keynes Dons proved to be Knill’s final game in charge.

Laws, 51, has previously managed the Iron twice, between 1997 and March 2004, and between April 2004 to 2006.

Wharton said: “We have not taken the decision lightly and I have to say it is never easy.

“The last few weeks have become increasingly difficult and eventually I had to make a decision that it was time for a change.

“It has been building but I think the final straw was that it wasn’t getting any better and we have been as patient as we can be.

“At times I think we played some very good football and to be fair to Alan he is a very good coach.

“It seemed that somehow we have lost the desire and confidence and it is the manager’s job to install that.

“But as a manager, and particularly at a club like Scunthorpe where we have achieved what we have in recent times, that is even more important.”
