The Belles have made a swoop for England forward Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, the Free Press understands.

It is understood that the highly-rated England U23 striker has been training with the Belles with a view to securing a permanent move away from top-flight side Notts County.

It is believed that Sweetman-Kirk has agreed personal terms with the Belles, however, there was still some paperwork to be completed at the time of going to press.

The former Coventry City striker has had limited first-team chances at County since moving from the Sky Blues last year where she was the club’s top scorer.

And it is hoped that the World University Games gold medallist could provide strong competition for the table-topping Belles’ frontline.

The 23-year-old would also be expected to provide ample cover for Doncaster striker Jess Sigsworth who is likely to be heading to Canada in August for England U20 World Cup duty.

If the deal goes through, Sweetman-Kirk could be available for Belles’ return to league action this weekend when they face Millwall Lionesses.

Doncaster will be looking to kick-on from the first half of their FAWSL2 campaign.

Gordon Staniforth’s side currently top the table following a perfect start from their opening five league matches.

Staniforth told the Free Press: “We’ve got to keep focused.

“It’s no good being at the top of the division after the first five games and then letting it slip.

“I’m taking the league five games at a time. So my focus is on these next five games and keeping that consistency.

“We’ve got to show discipline and not get too drawn in.

“Teams will be dropping points during this half of the season. What we’ve got to make sure is that we keep our focus.

“The girls are hungry to succeed, I’ve seen that in training. They’re ready to go.

“We know about Millwall, they are not going to be pushovers. It will be a physical battle and they will want to be pushing on from third spot in the league.

“But we’re ready.”
