Doncaster Rovers: Furman ‘staying put’

Dean Furman has no intention of following Mark Duffy and Chris Brown out of the door at Doncaster Rovers, according to his agent.

Speculation has linked Furman – who has a year left on his deal – with a move away from the Keepmoat this summer but this has been rubbished by his representative.

“Deano is staying with Doncaster Rovers for now,” the agent told South African newspaper Soccer Laduma.

“He’s got one year left on his contract and that’s how things stand at the moment.”

Furman’s former club Oldham Athletic had reportedly expressed an interest in taking the 25-year-old back to Boundary Park.

He endured somewhat of a frustrating time at Rovers following his arrival last summer, losing an initially regular starting berth to Paul Keegan and largely restricted to covering injuries and suspensions.

Furman is known to be well liked by boss Paul Dickov, who he previously worked with at Oldham.

With Keegan out of contract and his future so far undecided, Furman could find himself back as one of the first choice midfielders next season.

He suffered a minor groin injury while on international duty with South Africa earlier this month.

The midfielder is one of 11 senior players currently under contract at Rovers following relegation to League One.

Both Duffy and Brown activated relegation release clauses in their contracts to allow them to move to Birmingham and Blackburn respectively.

Boss Dickov told the Star he does not expect any of the other ‘four or five’ players with clauses to use them.
