Scunthorpe United may have almost finished their transfer business for this summer - all before the start of pre-season training.

According to Iron boss Russ Wilcox, newly-promoted Scunthorpe are satisfied with their recruitement after the signings of winger Jennison Myrie-Williams and experienced midfielder Neal Bishop.

Although he acknowledged they would have to sound-out a new striker before the end of the transfer window.

The need for a forward may become more substantial should last season’s top-scorer Sam Winnall become the subject of a bid, but he believes his side’s two new signings stand them in good stead.

“You can never say never, because there are names coming up all the time - there is always a name or two that make you think ‘I didn’t realise he was available’,” said Wilcox.

“We certainly need another player adding at the top end of the pitch. But I think it’s about taking your time and making sure it’s the right player and the right person.

“That’s the key to it and I think we’ve done okay with that so far.”

Whilst admitting that new signings are a possibility further down the line, Wilcox emphasised how he wanted his current squad to have the chance to impress in League One.

“I know the fans probably want four, five or six signings - but they can come at a later date, as and when they are required,” he said.

“I think it’s important to give the group the chance to take on what they’ve achieved last year.

“They are excited to be back in a league where, really, a lot of them belong.”
