Doncaster Rovers: Brown looks to future

Chris Brown is keen to look ahead to Rovers’ League One campaign following the club’s dramatic relegation on the final day of last season.

David Nugent’s 75th-minute penalty gave Championship champions Leicester the vital victory over Paul Dickov’s men which - coupled with Birmingham City’s last-gasp equaliser - relegated Rovers to the third tier of English football.

As several players are using the off-season break to decide their futures with Rovers, Brown - who remains under contract with the club - has been looking ahead to a new campaign despite the relegation wounds still hurting the towering forward.

“It wasn’t nice, obviously, no-one really saw it coming,” hesaid.

“That was the thing - we got sucked in with seven games to go.

“But we’ve got to look forward now.

“We can’t do anything about it, and we’ve got a great set of lads.

“No doubt the gaffer will be bringing some top-quality players in and we’ll give it a good go.”

Brown proved to be one of the positives in a difficult campaign for Dickov’s men.

The tall number nine clinched a collection of man-of-the-match accolades and was named Doncaster Rovers Player of the Year at The Star’s 2014 Football Awards.

The former Sunderland trainee says his consistent form was largely down to him being match-fit and free from injuries after a broken foot and a hamstring problem.

“With Ben Rome [Rovers’ fitness coach] coming to the club, that’s gone hand in hand,” he said. “I do a lot of work with him in the gym including prehab stuff and trying to look after myself. It’s worked well.

Brown, who netted nine times in the Championship, added: “On a personal note I was happy with the amount of games that I played.”
