Doncaster Rovers: Bramall and Watson ‘agree to sell’ but image rights hold up takeover

Terry Bramall and Dick Watson have agreed to sell their stakes in Doncaster Rovers and hand over the reins to John Ryan and One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, The Star understands.

The co-owners are ready to sell their 23 per cent stakes following a week of intense negotiation.

Bramall has previously stated he was relaxed about the prospect of selling, while Watson is currently recovering from heart surgery.

An agreement which will see Tomlinson become a ‘silent partner’ to Ryan had been expected to be confirmed at Wembley yesterday.

But a last minute hitch to negotiations, thought to be centred around the 22-year-old’s image rights, prevented a planned 6pm press conference going ahead.

Sources close to the deal insist the matter will be resolved.

Ryan, Tomlinson and first team boss Paul Dickov had all been on standby to attend a press call at Wembley last night after negotiations accelerated this week.

Tomlinson and his One Direction bandmates are in the midst of three concerts in three successive nights at the national stadium.

They are scheduled to perform in Copenhagen next Friday, before their world tour heads for Denmark, France, Holland and Italy later this month.

So all parties involved in the deal are likely to be keen to push through a resolution before Tomlinson departs the country.

It is understood another press conference has been pencilled in for Wednesday.
