Former Rovers winger John Buckley says plans for John Ryan and One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson’s potential Rovers takeover could be ‘phenomenal’.

The multi-millionaire pairing have tabled a bid for the League One side and negotiations are at a very advanced stage.

The Star understands a decision on on their proposal is imminent.

Former player Buckley, who enjoyed two spells with Rovers, has followed current player Luke McCullough in offering his support for the duo’s plans.

“It is brilliant that Louis is prepared to help the club with John Ryan alongside him,” said Buckley.

“They both obviously want what’s best for the club.

“I do wonder how much control Louis would have but on the basis of him helping out financially, that could be phenomenal for the town and the club as a whole.

“It’s a bit of a strange one because you don’t really expect these things to happen, but if it does then I think we should get behind them and support them.

“It’ll be a dream for Louis to be a part of his hometown club.

“You dream of that kind of stuff as a kid and he’s taking his chance. I wish them both good luck.”

Ex-Rovers chairman Ryan was the driving force in bringing Bessacarr popstar Tomlinson onto the club’s books as a player last season when the 22-year-old played in a reserves match for charity.

* Reported Rovers target and former Walsall skipper Andy Butler, from Balby, has penned a two-year deal with Sheffield United.
