Ironstone Gunness go into tonight’s fixture just one win away from clinching the Scunthorpe & District Sunday League Division Two title.

The high-flying outfit have boosted their chances of championship glory after wrapping up a stunning three wins in just four days.

Gunness first played a double-header against Robert Hall Holme on Wednesday evening with Martyn Igoe’s solitary strike seeing Ironstone record a 1-0 win.

That was then followed by a 3-1 success with goals coming from Simon Igoe, Johnny Atkinson and Ryan Ladlow.

And they continued their impressive form with a 7-1 thumping of Goxhill at Gunness Playing Fields on Sunday.

Goals came via a Wayne Mell hat trick and further strikes from Simon Welton, Tony Laynes, Joe Robb and Mark Gravel.

With one hand on the league trophy, Ironstone face Talbot Inn FC tonight at Gunness Playing Fields knowing three points will help decide their fate.

Sunday also marks their first of three finals as they play Real Priory in the Ted Harrison Cup at Brumby Hall, 6.30pm.
