Doncaster Knights: Rule book at the ready as title race tightens

Anyone associated with Doncaster Knights has every right to be reaching for the rule book this week - as the National One title race heads for a potentially thrilling climax.

Knights’ lead at the top was cut to just four points after their defeat at second-placed Rosslyn Park last weekend.

And with just three games of the season remaining, the prospect of the promotion rivals finishing level on points is now a very real one.

Not only that. Amazingly, Doncaster and Rosslyn Park both currently boast the same number of wins AND points difference (+397).

Should both sides end the campaign level on points, the rulemakers stipulate that the side with the most wins will go up.

The title chasers are currently tied on 22 wins out of 27.

Should points and wins be level come the end of the season, the next determining factor is points difference - which, again, is currently level.

If the teams still cannot be separated, it comes down to points scored. Doncaster have a current tally of 830 points, while Rosslyn Park trail on 771.

If clubs are tied on points, wins, points difference and points scored, they are then ranked according to the number of matches won, by excluding the first, second, and so on, match of the season.
