Hundreds of youngsters will descend on Castle Park on Sunday for Doncaster’s annual Mini Rugby Festival.

Teams from across Yorkshire, Humberside, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire will compete in more than 100 matches in one of the highlights of the junior calendar.

Lisa Davis, Doncaster Knights’ community rugby manager, said: “The festival is a great day of rugby for children in the area and we hope to see as many people come to Castle Park as possible.

“The event is free to attend and a great way to introduce children into watching and becoming involved in local rugby.

“There will be some titanic struggles between the teams.

“Most of these teams have played each other over the season and will know each others strengths and weaknesses.

“This makes for fantastic rugby and the thrill the children get from this is a joy to see.

“Hopefully there will be a few future Knights spotted about too.”

She added: “Lots of time has been given up to organise the day and hopefully these efforts will have their rewards.

“None of this would be possible without the on-going help and support provided by the parents of the near 1,000 competing children.

“There is also a raffle and tombola stall, a sweet stall and food will be available to buy.”

Teams from Wath, Beverley, Sheffield Tigers, Dinnington, Dronfield and Wortley will be among those to compete at Castle Park.

The action gets underway at 10.30am.

n Knights 2014/15 season tickets, priced from £150 for adults and £100 for concessions, are now on sale.
