Jordan Bowery has been sent to Rovers for an education, according to Paul Dickov.
The Aston Villa striker arrived at the Keepmoat late last week on a month’s loan and impressed on his debut against Barnsley.
“Paul Lambert wants him to come here and continue his education with us,” Dickov said.
“We’re delighted that we’re the place that Paul has chosen for him to come.
“Jordan is a kid I’ve watched for a long, long time. I’ve tried to sign him a few times but not been able to.
“He’s a kid with a big future.”
Bowery joined Villa from Chesterfield 18 months ago for £500,000 but has made only 18 appearances, mainly from the bench. He has 18 months left on his current deal.
“We saw what he could do after just 24 hours at the club,” Dickov added. “If he can come in and put in a performance over 70 minutes like that after not many first team games this season, that tells you a lot about him.
“Once the players get to know him and his strengths, and he learns the same about us, he’ll do very well for us.”
