Doncaster Rovers: Rival bosses seek psychological edge from derby stalemate

The sparring between Doncaster Rovers and Barnsley did not stop on the final whistle.

Paul Dickov and Danny Wilson might have agreed that referee Andy D’Urso got both major decisions wrong in Saturday’s feisty 2-2 draw.

But both bosses were keen to keen to land a psychological blow upon their local rivals after seeing the points shared.

After Nick Proschwitz’s late equaliser earned the Tykes a vital draw, Wilson did not waste the chance to remind Rovers of their “two points dropped” - and the fact the draw kept Doncaster within reach of his side.

However, Dickov’s retort was plain and simple: ‘We’ve got the points on the board - and I’d much prefer it that way’.

Doncaster are currently six points clear of the drop zone, seven ahead of Barnsley and nine clear of Saturday’s opponents Yeovil Town - although the bottom two have two games in hand on Rovers.

Third bottom Charlton, who have FA Cup commitments to fit in, have three games in hand on Rovers.

Dickov said: “People will look at the table and say teams in and around us have games in hand.

“But I’d much rather have the points on the board than games in hand, and be playing Saturday Tuesday, Saturday Tuesday all the time.”

Barnsley travel to Wigan this evening, while Yeovil host in-form Watford.
