Two goals inside the opening six minutes of the second half saw Rossington Main stretch their unbeaten run to eight games with a 2-0 victory at Knaresborough Town.

Shaun Pendleton and Lee Holmes struck to continue Rossington’s resurgence under new boss Steve Brennan.

Holmes almost gave Main a dream start inside the first minute after getting in on goal.

Stuart Fielding wasn’t far away with a header before Holmes headed straight at the keeper as Brennan’s side made a lively start.

It wasn’t all one way traffic though, Main keeper Adam Stevens was forced into a fine save pushing an effort round the post, while Town number nine Colin Heath fashioned an overhead that went just over the bar.

Just before the interval Holmes forced a good save out of the keeper after latching onto a wayward pass.

The second half was only four minutes old when Rossington finally made the breakthrough.

Joe Hart and Jordan Hatton combined to set up the opening goal for Pendleton to find the bottom corner with a well struck effort from the edge of the area.

It wasn’t long before Main increased their lead when on 52 minutes Holmes took advantage of a defensive error to slide the ball past the exposed keeper.

Knaresborough huffed and puffed as they looked for a way back into the game. But it was Rossington that went closest to adding a third with Holmes denied by a last ditch tackle then Ben Hunter saw his 18-yard effort pushed away by the keeper.

Maltby Main sealed a seventh away league win of the season with an impressive 3-2 victory at seventh-placed Albion Sports.

Goals from Joel Davies and Oliver Fearon gave the Miners a 2-0 lead at the break.

However, Sports hit back early in the second half with two goals in as many minutes from Malachie Farquharson and Joel Ettiene to level the scores.

But Maltby were not to be denied a seventh away win of the season when on 69 minutes Michael Cuckson pounced for what proved to be the winner.

Armthorpe Welfare’s scheduled home game against Worksop Parramore was of games postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
