Torrid weather conditions infuriated Epworth Town boss Leigh Jenkinson as he saw his side crash out of the Challenge Cup at the semi-finals stage.
Town travelled to face TSW Printers Scunthorpe & District Division One leaders New Holland Villa for a game which saw few chances on goal as just a solitary strike settled it.
The match-winning goal came from a free-kick which was lofted into Town’s area and as it caught the wind, fell kindly into the path of a NHV striker who poked home from close range.
Epworth’s appeals for offside were in vain as the hosts led at half time.
After the interval, Greg Carroll hit the post for Epworth and the home side’s goalkeeper denied Jenkinson’s men further with two outstanding saves in the second half from Rich Haynes and Gary Moment.
But Jenkinson was far from impressed with the conditions which he felt marred Epworth’s chance of a cup final spot as their high-flying hosts snatched glory.
He said: “The game was spoilt for both teams by the state of the pitch and the weather conditions of strong winds.
“Both teams gave 100 per cent and tried to play good football but both defences were on top.
“There were only really four chances in the whole game.
“We had all the possession in the second half but couldn’t make it count because of the wind affecting our crosses and the muddy pitch affecting our short passing and shots on goal.”
He went on: “Credit to our team for the effort and commitment. On another day we would’ve won the game but NHV went through and we can’t have any complaints.”
