Sutton Rovers booked their place in the semi-final of the Doncaster & District FA Challenge Cup with a 2-1 win over Denaby Main.

Tom Clamp and Tom Doherty both netted for Rovers, who will now host fancied CML outfit Thorne Colliery following their victory over their Doncaster Senior League Premier Division rivals.

Tom O’Neil replied for Main.

Only one of Saturday’s three scheduled Premier League games beat the weather but the clash between leaders Denaby United and visiting Rossington Main failed to finish.

The referee abandoned the game with 15 minutes of normal time remaining, following what a league official described as a ‘melee involving players from both teams’.

The game was deadlocked at 0-0 at the time of the incident, which is expected to be investigated by league bosses.

A long range effort by Henry Bibby helped secure FC Central a 2-1 Division One win at Dunscroft United.

Lee Isaac also netted for the visitors with Kieran Rickatson scoring United’s consolation.

Scawthorpe Scorpions posted a 5-2 win over Bentley Pumas in the only other game to beat the weather.

Torran Adams, Jamie Lambert, Ryan Walker, Mitchell Wain and Craig Musgrave shared the Scawthorpe goals.

n A mixed week for Maltby Main in the NCEL saw Mick Norbury’s side enjoy a 2-1 win over neighbours Staveley Miners Welfare at Muglet Lane, only to slip to a first defeat in four with a 4-1 home reversal against promotion chasing Thackley four days later.

Oliver Fearon, with his sixth goal in three games, and Lee Jordan found the net against Staveley.

Maltby face what looks like a tough game on Saturday at sixth placed Albion Sports.
