A fourth win on the trot saw Epworth Ladies Hockey Club climb into second in the table.

The Isle side hosted Pickering’s first team at the weekend and dispatched their visitors 5-1.

The win saw Epworth continue their undefeated run in 2014 and leap-frog former league leaders Sheffield University Banks 2nds.

Meeting midtable Pickering, the impressive Paula Tagg - last weekend’s match-winner for Epworth - knocked in her side’s opener at Brumby Hall Sports Ground.

However, Pickering responded well and netted the equaliser in quick fashion.

Twenty minutes into the match, the clinical Jacqui Jennings collected the ball and showed composure to slot it between the goalkeeper’s legs in a one-on-one to restore Epworth’s lead.

Both teams pushed on for further glory, however, neither could quite make their chances count as the first half ended 2-1 to the hosts.

Epworth started the second half strongly and were forever threatening through attacks from the pacy Sarah Parkin.

And that pressure soon paid dividends when a ball from midfield came through to winger Sallie Robinson and a cross in from the top of the D saw Helen Lightburn tackled on the goalline before scoring.

Cath Eade then ran up the pitch with the ball before Jennings found herself again bearing down on goal and once more victorious to make it 4-1 with her second of the game.

A great counter from Jenni Hickson saw Alex Robinson net the fifth and final goal of the game as she fired into the left-hand corner past the despairing goalkeeper.

Umpire’s Player went to Esther Latham as Eade picked up the Players’ Player award following a strong all-round performance in Yorkshire Five.
