James Coppinger and Richie Wellens were arguing “like a couple of women” about who actually scored Doncaster’s second goal against Wigan, according to boss Paul Dickov.
But our photograph, taken by snapper Steve Taylor, appears to clear up the argument once and for all - it was Wellens’ goal.
Coppinger was credited with the goal by all major news sources after appearing to fire home the rebound after Wellens’ initial effort was blocked by Latics goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi.
But our picture shows Copps’ close range effort appeared to find the net via Wellens’ chest.
Wellens immediately claimed the goal, pointing to himself during the celebrations.
And it’s no surprise that the argument continued in the changing room afterwards, with both Wellens and Coppinger having failed to find the net this season before Saturday.
Dickov said: “They were arguing like a couple of women about whose goal it was. I don’t care who scored it!”
