Paul Dickov feels the components of his relegation-beating formula are finally being brought together.

Despite the defeat at Blackburn, Dickov left Ewood Park feeling positive about his side’s prospects.

And a major factor in his confidence is the increase in experience among his healthy players.

“We’ve played young kids who have done fantastically well for us and you definitely want to bring your own players through,” he said.

“But you need that bit of experience and know how in this league.

“Abdoulaye Meite has got it, Paul Keegan is coming back and we hope to bring an experience striker in.

“Rob Jones will hopefully not be too far off either.

“Theses are the big things that we’ve been missing.

“Once the squad looks a bit stronger, if we continue to play how we did in the second half at Blackburn, then I know we’ll be more than ok.”

Dickov was delighted with the solid debut of Meite who last week penned a deal until the end of the season.

He said: “Considering that was his first competitive game since August, I thought he was outstanding.

“The positive thing with Abdou is that he’s only going to get better once his fitness comes up.

“He knows the boys because he’s been training with us for a couple of months.”

Reports in Romania yesterday claimed Rovers had agreed a deal with former West Brom defender Gabriel Tamas.

Rovers last night denied a deal had been done, though confirmed they had showed an interest in the Romania international.
