Striker Matt Godden has returned to Scunthorpe United with a point to prove - and wants to fire the Iron to promotion.

Godden, who scored five goals in nine games on loan at Conference Premier side AFC Dartford, came off the bench on Saturday during United’s 2-0 win over Morecambe.

Deon Burton’s double sent Scunthorpe into League Two’s automatic promotion places, and Godden said: “The lads are full of confidence and it’s also massive psychologically, to move into the promotion places

“When you’re playing well and winning, that’s one thing – but when you move into the top-three that’s massive psychologically.”

“I feel sharp, and I feel fit,” the 22-year-old added.

“I’m coming back in off the back of seven or eight games in a row.

“I’ve been playing and scoring goals, and I’m confident and fit.

“Now I want to stake a claim for a place in this side.

“We are targeting promotion, and nothing less.

“And now we’re stringing results together, I don’t see why we can’t go up.”
