Taekwondo teen Paige Leedale has battled back from reconstructive knee surgery to earn a shot at representing England at the World Championships.
The 15-year-old, from Cantley, suffered a dislocated knee and snapped tendon in 2011 and was sidelined from the sport for a year.
But she returned in 2012 to win the WTKA Best of British title in Sheffield - a crown she retained this year.
The McAuley Catholic High School pupil then capped her return by winning the under 50kg category for 13-17 years at the English National Open Championships in Birmingham last month.
She has been invited to train with the England squad in the new year with a view to competing in the World Championships in Spain and Portugal at the end of 2014.
Proud father Richard said: “Paige has dedicated more than half of her life to Taekwondo and is now starting to get the benefits that all of her hard work deserves.
“She started martial arts when she was just seven and is now a third degree black belt. She’s also a qualified instructor and takes her own lessons at East West MMA in Armthorpe.
“Her ambition is to fight in the Olympic Games.
“We’d really like to get a sponsor to help Paige achieve her dreams,” he added.
“She has a lot of competitions lined up in 2014, hopefully ending with the European Open in July and then the World Championships in October and November.”
