Paul Dickov has called for better defending after watching Rovers ship six goals in their last two games without reply.
The Scot was fuming after Theo Robinson’s 66th minute ‘goal’ was denied following a late offside decision during the 3-0 defeat to Leeds United.
However, Dickov admitted he was far from pleased with the way in which his side allowed Matt Smith, Ross McCormack and Rodolph Austin to net for Brian McDermott’s men.
“The defending for all three goals on our part was poor,” he said.
“If we are going to give chances away to the likes of McCormack and Austin in the form that they are in, you’re going to cause yourselves problems.”
Rovers find themselves three points above the relegation zone with the fourth worst ‘goals against’ record in the Championship - at 34 - behind Bournemouth, Millwall and Barnsley.
Despite Saturday’s Yorkshire derby defeat, Dickov was pleased with their second half display against McDermott’s promotion-chasers.
And the game could have panned out very differently had Robinson’s ‘goal’ stood and cancelled out Smith’s 20th minute strike.
“It would’ve been 1-1 and we were in the ascendancy,” said Dickov who was adamant United’s Lee Peltier had played Robinson onside.
“Leeds have had to change their personnel and their system to try and contain us.
“We felt strongly that we were going to get something out of the game.
“It’s defining moments in games, especially when you are on top which we were.”
Doncaster have not exactly had the easiest of introductions to their Championship return following a growing injury list.
However, the Rovers chief had positive updates on full-back Yun Suk-Young and long-term injured forward Harry Forrester.
“He [Yun] is very, very close but he is not quite there yet so hopefully he will be available [for Derby County],” said Dickov.
“The same with Harry.
“He [Forrester] has looked really bright and really sharp in training so we just have to be a little bit careful with him.
“But he will be a massive positive for us.”
