Doncaster Rovers: Dickov fumes over Theo ‘goal’

Paul Dickov admits to being ‘baffled’ by the decision to chalk off Theo Robinson’s goal which would have levelled proceedings against Leeds United.

The Jamaican striker found himself bearing down on goal before he slotted in with ease past Paddy Kenny in the 66th minute to equalise in the crucial Yorkshire derby.

He and the Rovers players went off to celebrate and cheers rung around the stadium before soon turning to boos when a late flag was raised, deeming the striker as being offside for the goal.

Dickov was reeling after the game at the Keepmoat Stadium - which saw Rovers downed 3-0 - and was adamant that United defender Lee Peltier played on Doncaster’s forward.

“I haven’t had an opportunity to speak to the referee yet but intend seeking him out for an explanation,” said the Scotsman following Doncaster’s tenth defeat of the season. “I’ve had the benefit of replaying the incident about 20 times on the video and Theo [Robinson] is clearly a yard onside. But the late flag has baffled me as much as anything else. It looked as if the linesman thought he was on side but changed his mind when Theo scored.

“It’s a massive decision because we were all over them at that stage and had we got a goal it could have changed the course of the game.”

That goal would have cancelled out Matt Smith’s 20th minute header, but instead Leeds ran out 3-0 winners.
