WESTWOODSIDE Playing Field Association held a five-a-side football tournament for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee over two days.
On the Saturday, the under 10s competition was won by Haxey Hotshots beating Hamma Bombers in the final. Haxey played an excellent pass and move game throughout the competition and it was no surprise when they picked up the cup.
The Bombers also gave a really good account of themselves and made a really good final.
Despite being a slightly younger team, the Black Ninjas made up for their lack of age and height by putting in extra effort and only just missed out on the final.
Sunday saw five teams playing out the over 16s competition and, despite the windy and rainy conditions, there were some excellent games between all the teams in the group stage.
In the knockout phase, Rampant Rovers overcame the group winners, Student FC in the final in a close affair with Rovers clinching the title on sudden-death penalties.
