The South Yorkshire Senior Cricket League (SYSCL) has backed plans to re-organise league cricket in Yorkshire.

The re-organisation - championed by the Yorkshire Cricket Board - would see the formation of North and South ECB Yorkshire Premier Leagues at the top of a new pyramid system.

A recent survey revealed that the vast majority of players did not wish to travel long distances to play cricket.

A statement from the SYSCL said: “The SYSCL is supporting the concept of two new ECB Premier Leagues in Yorkshire – one in the South and one in the North.

“These Premier Leagues will be supported by a strong pyramid structure of feeder leagues, enabling clubs to progress as far as they are able to or wish to, whilst keeping travel time and distance to a minimum.

“It is hoped that a new structure will be in place for the 2015 season, however negotiations are at a very early stage. No decisions will be made without consultation with clubs/players.”
