Confidence is growing in a new-look Axholme Tanks basketball side despite suffering a recent defeat to Scunthorpe Steelers.

The Isle-based outfit have recruited new players for their 2013-14 campaign with a particular emphasis on bringing youth players through the ranks.

Despite coming up against experienced sides boasting international players in the Doncaster league, the Tanks are holding their own.

Axholme, who were due to face Seahawks this week at Doncaster Deaf College, however, came up against a very strong Scunthorpe Steelers team who ran out 101-60 points winners.

Top scoring player coach Dave Brinkley fired over half of Tanks’ total with 36 points.

Fellow player-coach Si Andrew said after the match: “It was a tough game but confidence is growing strong with the young team.

“The Steelers are very good shooters and very quick on the attack.”

Axholme Tanks v Steelers team: Dave Brinkley, Si Andrew, Chris Andrew, Sam Webster, Dan Teahan, Simon Parkin, Jonathan Whitaker, Matt Shipley and Ant Fenely.
