HOOKER Rhys Buckley has become the Knights’ first new signing ahead of the 2012/13 season.

The 22-year-old has arrived at Castle Park from Newport Gwent Dragons where he played regular rugby in the RaboDirect Pro 12 last season, replacing World Cup absentees and injured skipper Tom Willis.

Buckley said: “I’m really looking forward to joining the Knights, the facilities are first class and Brett Davey’s vision has impressed me.

“The Director of Rugby seems to be putting a strong side together for next season and the aim is to reach the top four – giving us a chance of promotion in the play-offs.

“I hope I will bring a bit of experience to the side having played regular regional rugby earlier in the season, but found myself behind a former New Zealand international and Welsh World Cup hooker.

“I’m already excited to get involved in pre-season and win a first team spot to further my rugby career with Doncaster as the Club share my ambitions to succeed at the highest level.”

Prior to his first senior contract with the Dragons, the Caerphilly-born forward spent two years in the Principality Premiership with Pontypool.

Buckley is know for his mobility while possessing an accurate arm and power at the scrum.

* Sources in Lincolshire suggest new signing Buckley will face competition for the number two jersey from Sheffield Tigers hooker Alistair Thomson.

The 21-year-old has reportedly penned his first professional contract with the Knights.

Thomson represented the Knights - along with several of his Tigers teammates - in the British and Irish Cup this season.
