Scouser Sue Smith inspired Belles to a well deserved point against the Toffees.

Smith - an Everton fan - sliced open the visitors’ defence time and time again as Doncaster dominated before the break.

The home side’s profligacy came back to bite them though as Toni Duggan’s deflected effort against the run of play sent Everton in ahead at the break.

But the Belles stuck to their task and earned a deserved draw when Leandra Little headed home Smith’s cross.

Belles enjoyed the better of the first half but were unable to turn their dominance into goals.

Jess Sigsworth missed the best chance after just six minutes when she placed a shot wide after being neatly played in by the impressive Smith.

Smith then saw her dipping effort from 25 yards saved just under the crossbar by Megan Walsh.

Millie Bright was next to latch onto another superb Smith through ball but Lindsay Johnson’s excellently timed intervention prevented a certain goal.

Smith then played in Sigsworth but she fired across the face of goal before centre half turned centre forward Little sent a well struck volley just wide from the edge of the box.

Belles were made to pay for their wastefulness when the Toffees struck against the run of play in the 45th minute, Duggan’s deflected effort from distance creeping under Nicola Davies and into the corner of the net.

Everton started the second period on top, with Nikita Paris testing Davies’ handling with a couple of shots from distance.

But Doncaster struck a deserved equaliser when Little got on the end of Smith’s sublime centre and nodded into the bottom corner.

Both sides had chances to win it in a frantic finish, with substitute Naomi Chadwick coming within inches of heading in a last gasp winner for the hard-working Belles.

A point was not enough to lift the home side off the bottom of the FAWSL table.
