Doncaster Rovers Belles prepare to face Liverpool Ladies tonight - with the reverse fixture one the borough’s club may want to forget.
The last time the pair met in the FAWSL it resulted in a humiliating 9-0 drubbing by Liverpool. The Belles were also reduced to ten men after the dismissal of Tori Williams and 2-0 down with just seven minutes gone.
However, since that defeat the Belles have responded admirably - picking up their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory at home to Lincoln Ladies five days later.
England midfielder Sue Smith scored Doncaster’s solitary goal and she was again on target a few days later during Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to reigning league champions Arsenal Ladies.
Belles manager John Buckley will be boosted by the return of striker Jess Sigsworth who has been away on international duty with the England U19s.
The Auckley teenager has returned to Doncaster with a silver medal in the European Championships after England U19s were beaten 2-0 by France in the final - with both goals coming in extra time.
Former Liverpool Ladies striker Katie Brusell is unlikely to feature for the Belles’ trip to Merseyside after picking up a hamstring injury in the Arsenal loss.
Belles’ centre half Leandra Little has also been playing through a shoulder injury sustained in the Liverpool thrashing back in August, but has been utilised up front to great effect for the Doncaster outfit.
Tonight: Liverpool Ladies v Doncaster Rovers Belles kicks-off at the Halton Stadium at 7.45pm.
