Confident Doncaster blitzed the Eagles to end their hopes of winning the Championship before they were ever reignited.
Sheffield showed all the hallmarks of suffering a hangover from their untimely defeat at Featherstone which took the league leaders’ shield out of their hands.
The Dons on the other hand looked like a side with something to play for and they turned in a powerful performance to seal sixth spot and a home tie against Dewsbury in the opening play-off game.
The only bright point for the Eagles was Menzie Yere moving level at the top of the club’s all-time try scoring rankings with two first half tries. Sheffield will now host Halifax on Friday night in the play-offs.
Doncaster got off to a great start with two quickfire tries in the first 14 minutes.
Dave Scott latched onto a trademark Paul Cooke long pass to race in before Kyle Trout sneaked over from close range with Scott converting.
The Eagles managed to level up by the mid-point of the half as they exploited a lack of cover on the Dons’ left.
Yere grabbed his first after a mazy run from Misi Taulapapa before the rapid Vinny Finigan surged home with Dom Brambani converting.
But the Dons showed the greater intent and surged clear again.
Craig Fawcett’s 40-20 created a platform for Scott to race in his second before a superb breakaway saw Lee Waterman win a race to score.
Yere grabbed his second before the break, equalling Daryl Powell’s record 114 try tally for the club.
The early stages of the second half proved a comedy of errors for the two sides.
But the Dons made sure of the win with tries from Stu Sanderson and Trout, both converted by Scott.
The Eagles had the last say with Quentin Laulu Togagae surging over and Brambani converting.
