The Colts large following braved wintery conditions to watch their heroes and were not disappointed. Straight from the kick off Colts defensive quartet of Dan Brewer, Cam Young, Frazer Horsefield and Will Gillis were put to the test as the lively Discovery team laid siege looking for an early goal.

After weathering the early onslaught, Colts began to take control of the game with midfielders Liam Norton, Mitch Fulwood, Brad Webster and Jordan Jenkinson playing some neat football and strategic passes to forwards Ritchie Burdett and Ben Carson.

Fulwood and Burdett were unlucky not to open the scoring and a corner from Norton found the head of Young who also almost scored.

Keeper and captain George Moore made a couple of excellent saves as a very good Discoveries side strived for a half time lead. The half ended with a stale mate 0-0. In the second half, substitutes Bobby Foster and Josh Richardson were soon to make a big impact on the game. Within the first two minutes of the second half it was Foster who met a brilliant Norton cross which he dispatched into the roof of the net taking the Colts into a 1-0 lead.

This spurred the Colts on, with full backs Horsefield, Brewer and Gillis rampaging forward putting in some fine crosses for Carson and Foster to feed off but it was midfielder Webster who struck next with a beautifully taken volley from 20 yards out which dipped over the opposing keeper in to the back of the net, 2-0 to the Colts. Discoveries were fighting hard to get back into the game and keeper Moore was again called upon to make a couple of fine saves.

They eventually did find the net but the goal was disallowed for a foul on keeper Moore. Colts were working hard in defence to keep Discoveries at bay with the excellent Josh Richardson marshalling the defensive line.

Substitute, Ciaran Hazel, came on and immediately got into the action putting in a lovely cross which just evaded the strong running Jenkinson.

A hopeful long range effort from Discoveries looped over keeper Moore and into the back of the net to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

In the final minutes Discoveries strived for an equaliser but the resilient Colts rearguard held out for the victory and to lift the President’s Cup.

Man of the match was awarded to the solid Josh Richardson but the whole squad of 14 players should be commended for an outstanding performance in terrible conditions against a superb Discoveries outfit.

Manager Steve Brewer and his two assistant coaches Steve Young and Wayne Norton did a victory jig onto the pitch at the final whistle.
