Doncaster Rovers: Charlton boss expects Rovers to mirror Dickov

Charlton boss Chris Powell says opposition managers will expect Rovers to play in the image of Paul Dickov.

Powell is fully aware of the type of player Dickov was during his career having shared a dressing room with him at Leicester City.

And he thinks there will be an expectation Rovers will produce the same tenacious football striker Dickov did as a player.

“The thing with Paul is that people tend to think his team will be exactly how he was as a player and there’s some truth in that,” Powell said. “We know what we’re going to have to be ready for because we watched them last week against Blackburn.

“There will be plenty of pressing, high tempo and plenty of tackles.

“What we have to do is fashion chances among all that.

“Paul will have his own way of playing but it’s up to us to deal with that and go about our own business.”

Powell admits he is desperate to see his Charlton side pick up their first win of the season against Rovers on Saturday.

The Addicks came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Barnsley last weekend and get their first point of the campaign.

But Powell says a first win will be huge, particularly at home.

He said: “I want us to get a good win at home because we had difficulties there last season.

“No team is ever going to come here and make life easy for us but we’ve got to get the job done.

“We got five points from the first six games last year and we want to improve that this year, to show progress.”

Skipper Johnnie Jackson will not be risked against Rovers despite stepping up his recovery from a calf injury.
